Staithes Cottage
This
tiny cruck cottage with ships' timber beams and thick stone walls is one of
the oldest buildings in Staithes. It is believed that it once served as a
stable and forge in the heart of the old village. In the early 1900s it was
used as a studio by the Staithes Group
artists Laura and Harold Knight when they lived at Roxby after their marriage.
They walked the three miles down to Staithes to paint each day in all weathers
(and back up again at the end of the day!)
Artist's Studio
It
has been restored for use as a cosy studio/cottage. It is completely self-contained
with its own private entrance. The studio has been simply but comfortably
and tastefully furnished. It has a bed deck (with three quarter mattress),
a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom with shower over the bath, a simple wood
or coal burning stove and plenty of space for painting. The futon opens out
to form a comfortable double bed.
Holiday Cottage
It
is tucked away with its own entrance in Barber's Yard just behind Staithes
Gallery. Patio doors open out onto a small paved area overlooking Staithes
Beck. It makes an ideal romantic getaway or the perfect bolthole for anyone
wishing to get away from it all for a few days and recharge their batteries
by the sea.
