Staithes Cottage

Laura Knight Studio - bed deckThis tiny cruck cottage with ships' timber beams and thick stone walls is one of the oldest buildings in Staithes. It is believed that it once served as a stable and forge in the heart of the old village. In the early 1900s it was used as a studio by the Staithes Group artists Laura and Harold Knight when they lived at Roxby after their marriage. They walked the three miles down to Staithes to paint each day in all weathers (and back up again at the end of the day!)
