Bryan Baines's work on exhibition at Staithes Gallery

Brian was born in South Yorkshire and worked for many years in the Steel Industry. An industrial injury some years ago forced an early retirement enabling him to pursue his lifelong passion for painting.

He paints in oils and is inspired by the landscapes and scenery of his native Yorkshire, particularly on the North Sea coast. Working either in plein air or at home from photographs and sketches, he strives to capture the subtle light effects created by weather. Sunshine and mist in particular feature strongly in his paintings. His work is much influenced by the Newlyn artists and the French Impressionists as well as his friend, the well-known artist and broadcaster David Curtis.

He has been a member of the Rotherham Art Society for many years.

Exhibitions include: Sheffield Art Show; Holmfirth; Davie Gallery, Tickhill.
