David Curtis's work on exhibition at Staithes Gallery
David Curtis was born and raised in Doncaster. He headed an engineering design team for Hawker-Siddely until 1988 when growing success as an artist enabled him to give up his job and dedicate himself full-time to painting.
David is essentially a plein air painter, working in both oils and watercolours. He observes transient lighting conditions and the effects of atmosphere in his compositions.
He is a member of both the Royal Society of Marine Artists and the Royal Institute of Oil painters and has exhibited at the Royal Academy. He has exhibited widely in this country and abroad and won numerous awards including, in 1992, the prestigious Singer Friedlander/Sunday Times Watercolour award. In 2008 he was selected as the artist of his generation to depict the Changing of the Colour Ceremony with HM Queen Elizabeth II.
Always keen to nurture new talent, David has published four books of his work with help and advice for fellow artists: two on the subject of watercolour, and two on oil paintings. He has also made six DVD/videos produced by APV films.
David is a regular gallery artist at the Richard Hagen Gallery in Broadway in the Cotswolds.

UK, Cadbury-Schweppes and many others too numerous to list here.
