Michael Fowler's work on exhibition at Staithes Gallery

Michael was born in the old West Riding of Yorkshire and he continues to live and work in the region. Though he has had no formal training in Art he has painted for most of his life, developing a natural talent through his own efforts. Last year he gave up his career in the police force to devote himself to painting full time.

He works mainly in oils, both plein air and in his studio, and seeks to portray the English landscape, particularly his native Yorkshire, and to capture the effects of light and mood on his subjects.

His atmospheric game scenes were highly commended at the British Association of Shooting and Conservation (BASC) Artists competition. Some of the paintings were subsequently published as limited edition prints by Sally Mitchell Fine Arts. His work has also been highly commended and achieved runner-up status in the international Society of All Artists (SAA) Artist of the Year competition.

Exhibitions include: Galleries in Sheffield, South Yorkshire; Bakewell, Derbyshire; the Mall Galleries, London; Talent Fine Arts, Malton, North Yorkshire.

Following the showing of his work at the Royal Society of Marine Artists he has been short-listed for a commission for the Sultan of Oman.
