David Allen: Working with Pastels 15th - 18th May 2008

Staithes Cobles by David AllenDavid Allen lives in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. He worked as a draughtsman and a chartered civil engineer before becoming a full-time artist in 1989.

He works for the most part in pastels with which he is able to capture the intensity of light and colour that characterises the North Sea coastline. He paints his landscapes and seascapes outdoors in plein air as well as completing larger works in his studio.

In 2001 David was a finalist in the Pastel Artist International magazine's Award for Worldwide Pastel Excellence. He won the Frank Herring Award at the Pastel Society in 2002 and was Highly Commended at the Harrogate Open Exhibition in 2005. He is a member of the Fylingdales Group of Artists and exhibits with them annually at the Pannett Museum in Whitby. He is also a member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists where he won the Classic Boat prize at the annual exhibition in 2005 and the Conway Maritime Sail Award in 2006.

He exhibits widely, contributes articles to art magazines and is a highly commended tutor on painting courses nationwide.
