The Smugglers is an elegant Georgian maisonette. It is simply but stylishly furnished and available to let for holidays. It’s perfect for family get-togethers, groups of friends, special interest groups or clubs.
The large sitting/dining/function room on the first floor is well equipped for dinner parties for up to 20+ guests. A range of tables can be used separately or together to accommodate different sized parties.
A rich variety of locally inspired artwork – from 19th century paintings by the Staithes Group and their contemporaries to new work by living artists made recently in Staithes – provides a fascinating backdrop.
It sleeps up to 14+ in five good sized bedrooms on the second floor. The accommodation is as follows:
Bedroom 1: Sleeps 2 in a double bed
Bedroom 2: Sleeps 3 in a double and a single bed
Bedroom 3: Sleeps 2 in a double bed
Bedroom 4: Sleeps 4 in a double and a pair of (full size) bunks
Bedroom 5: Sleeps 3 in a double and a single bed

The kitchen/breakfast room is well-equipped with all you need for self-catering.
Our local butcher, Richard Lyth (open on Staithes High Street until 12 noon Monday to Saturday) sells quality local meat and meat products as well as bread, cheese, milk, local honey and a small range of vegetables and groceries. The Gift Shop also sells some necessities. Otherwise a large Co-op at the top of the village supplies most of the things you’ll need.
For a special meal or celebration you might want to contact Lisa Chapman, who cooks for our painting weekends and pop-up restaurant. Lisa’s company To Dine For is at
Lisa can also provide quality seasonal ready meals made with locally sourced ingredients and deliver them to the Smugglers if you’d like something delicious you don’t have to cook yourself.
Our two large comfy sofas are hard to get out of – but perfect for relaxing in front of the multi-fuel stove.
Let us know before your visit how you and your group intend to spend your time in the Smugglers and we’ll arrange the furniture so as best to accommodate your needs.
There are two bathrooms. One has a bath and a shower over the bath as illustrated. The other has a shower.
The bathrooms are both situated on the first floor. This may be a consideration for elderly guests as the bedrooms are above on the second floor.
There’s a utility room on the ground floor with washing machine and tumble drier as well as hanging and storage space for coats, boots, wetsuits, boards and/or fishing equipment.
