Barry Carter’s work on exhibition at Staithes Gallery

Barry Carter was born in Nottingham. He moved to East Yorkshire and studied portraiture and figure painting at York Art School. He now lives near Hull and works as a full time painter, mainly producing landscapes.

His work is about the pleasure he feels at being in the landscape, whether in a remote nameless corner or equally in view of a much grander landscape. He returns again and again to his favourite places to take in the endless changes of mood and light.

Exhibitions include: Stonegate Gallery, York; Plough Books, Caistor; Montage Gallery, Castleton; YTV, Leeds; Scarborough Art Gallery; Pybus Fine Arts, Whitby; Staithes Now, Staithes; Byard Gallery, Nottingham; the Pannett Gallery, Whitby; the Ropewalk, Barton-on-Humber; Lincolnshire Society of Artists; Middlesbrough Art Gallery; Leeds City Art Gallery; the Laing Painting Competitions (Harrogate, Halifax and Leeds); the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Mall Galleries, London
