Robert Brindley’s work on exhibition at Staithes Gallery

Born in Burton on Trent and having painted all his life, Robert moved to Whitby in 1992 and became a full time painter.

Working in watercolours, oils, and pastels, Robert’s inspiration is the challenge of capturing light and atmosphere in a contemporary impressionistic style.

His paintings, mainly landscapes and coastal scenery, are created around his home in North Yorkshire, and on his annual trip to Venice. Other places of inspiration include Cornwall, the South Coast, Wales, Scotland, Greece, France & India.

In 1997 Robert was elected a member Royal Society of Marine Artists and was subsequently featured on Tyne Tees Television’s “A Day In The Life Of …” series.  He is currently the Archivist for the Royal Society of Marine Artists.

Robert’s first book, entitled ‘Painting Boats & Coastal Scenery’ was published by Crowood Press in August 2009.  This was followed in September 2010 with ‘Painting in Pastels and then in February 2012 he published ‘Painting Landscapes in Oils’.

His work has been featured in several publications, including The Artist, The Artist & Illustrator, Pratique des Arts and How to paint Watercolour Landscapes from Photographs to name a few.

Robert has made a number of instructional DVDs produced by Townhouse Films: ‘Successful Summer Landscapes In Watercolour’, ‘Painting Atmospheric Watercolour Landscapes’, ‘Oil Sketching On Location’ and ‘Atmospheric Coastal Watercolour Landscape’.
